A

Angel Number

A repeating number sequence (such as 111, 222, 333, or 1111) that you notice frequently in daily life. In numerology, angel numbers are considered messages or signals from the universe, drawing your attention to specific themes or areas of your life that need focus.

Attitude Number

A number calculated by adding just the month and day of your birth and reducing to a single digit. The Attitude Number reveals the first impression you give to others and how you initially approach new situations. It is sometimes called the Sun Number or Achievement Number.

Also known as: Sun Number, Achievement Number

B

Base Number

The single digit that a Master Number reduces to when analyzed in certain contexts. For example, the base number of Master Number 11 is 2, the base number of 22 is 4, and the base number of 33 is 6. In compatibility readings, the base number is often used to assess everyday dynamics, while the Master Number represents the higher potential of the relationship.

Birthday Compatibility

The practice of evaluating how well two people connect based on their birth dates using numerological principles. The most common method compares both people's Life Path Numbers across dimensions such as emotional harmony, communication, shared values, and growth potential to produce a compatibility profile.

Birthday Number

Simply the day of the month you were born, reduced to a single digit if necessary. For example, someone born on the 25th has a Birthday Number of 7 (2 + 5). This number reveals specific talents and gifts that complement your Life Path Number.

Birth Chart (Numerological)

A comprehensive profile that includes all of your key numerology numbers: Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, Personality, Birthday, and any Karmic Debt or Master Numbers present. Unlike an astrological birth chart, a numerological birth chart is calculated from your date of birth and full birth name rather than planetary positions.

C

Compatibility Matrix

A structured comparison of all possible Life Path Number pairings. Since there are nine single digit Life Path Numbers, this creates 45 unique pair combinations. Each pairing in a compatibility matrix is evaluated for how the two numbers interact across multiple dimensions such as emotional resonance, communication patterns, and shared values.

Compatibility Score

A percentage reflecting how well two Life Path Numbers align across multiple dimensions. On Birthday Compatibility, scores range from 0 to 100 and are derived from four independently measured aspects: emotional harmony, communication style, shared values, and growth potential.

Core Numbers

The five most important numbers in a person's numerology chart. These are the Life Path Number, Expression Number, Soul Urge Number, Personality Number, and Birthday Number. Together, they form the foundation of a complete numerological profile.

D

Destiny Number

Another name for the Expression Number. Calculated from all the letters of your full birth name, it reveals the overall mission, direction, and purpose of your life. The term Destiny Number is more commonly used in Vedic numerology, while Western traditions often call it the Expression Number.

Also known as: Expression Number

E

Expression Number

Calculated from all the letters of your full birth name (first, middle, and last) by converting each letter to its corresponding number and reducing the total. The Expression Number reveals your natural talents, abilities, and the overarching mission of your life. It represents who you have the potential to become and the qualities you are developing throughout your lifetime.

Also known as: Destiny Number

G

Growth Number

Derived from the first letter of your first name, this number offers insight into the areas of personal growth and development that are most relevant to your journey. It suggests the qualities you are being called to develop over the course of your life.

H

Heart's Desire Number

Another name for the Soul Urge Number. Calculated from the vowels in your full birth name, it reveals your deepest inner motivations, the things you truly want at a soul level, and the desires that drive your most important life decisions.

Also known as: Soul Urge Number

K

Karmic Debt

Specific numbers (13, 14, 16, and 19) that appear during the calculation of your core numerology numbers and indicate unresolved lessons or patterns carried from previous lifetimes. Each Karmic Debt Number points to a specific area where growth is needed. Karmic Debt 13 relates to hard work and discipline, 14 to freedom and responsibility, 16 to ego and humility, and 19 to independence and selflessness.

Karmic Debt Number 13

Appears when the number 13 shows up during a core number calculation before being reduced to 4. It indicates a past life pattern of avoiding hard work or taking shortcuts. The lesson in this lifetime is to develop discipline, perseverance, and the ability to see tasks through to completion even when they are difficult.

Karmic Debt Number 14

Appears when 14 shows up before being reduced to 5. It points to a past life pattern of misusing personal freedom or indulging excessively at the expense of others. The lesson is to learn moderation, commitment, and how to use freedom responsibly without harming yourself or those around you.

Karmic Debt Number 16

Appears when 16 shows up before being reduced to 7. It indicates a past life where ego, vanity, or emotional manipulation caused harm. The lesson involves humility, spiritual growth, and learning to rebuild after a significant personal fall. This is often considered the most challenging Karmic Debt Number.

Karmic Debt Number 19

Appears when 19 shows up before being reduced to 1. It points to a past life pattern of selfishness, abuse of power, or refusal to help others. The lesson is to develop genuine concern for others, learn to ask for and accept help, and use personal power in service of something greater than yourself.

Karmic Lesson

Different from Karmic Debt. Karmic Lessons are identified by looking at which numbers (1 through 9) are missing from the letter values in your full birth name. Each missing number represents a quality or experience that your soul has less natural familiarity with and therefore needs to develop more consciously in this lifetime.

Karmic Tail

A concept within the Destiny Matrix system that refers to the energy and patterns you carry from previous incarnations. The Karmic Tail represents unresolved past life experiences that influence your present behavior, particularly in areas where you feel stuck or encounter repeated challenges.

L

Life Path Number

The single most important number in numerology. It is calculated by reducing all the digits of your full date of birth to a single digit (1 to 9) or a Master Number (11, 22, or 33). Your Life Path Number reveals your core personality traits, natural strengths, life challenges, and the overarching theme of your journey. It is the number most commonly used in compatibility analysis.

Life Path Compatibility

The practice of comparing two people's Life Path Numbers to understand the natural dynamics of their relationship. Compatible Life Path Numbers tend to share similar values and communication styles, while challenging combinations bring differences that can either create friction or catalyze personal growth, depending on how both people handle them.

M

Master Number

The numbers 11, 22, and 33 in numerology. Unlike other double digit numbers, Master Numbers are not reduced to a single digit because they carry amplified spiritual significance and potential. Master Number 11 amplifies intuition and vision, 22 amplifies practical mastery and the ability to build at scale, and 33 amplifies compassion and healing. People with Master Numbers in their chart often experience both heightened gifts and heightened inner pressure.

Master Number 11

Known as the Intuitive Visionary. Carries a double dose of Life Path 2 energy amplified to a spiritual level. People with this number often have extraordinary intuition, deep sensitivity, and a natural ability to inspire others. The challenge is managing nervous energy and the feeling of being misunderstood.

Master Number 22

Known as the Master Builder. Carries the practical foundation of Life Path 4 amplified to a visionary scale. People with this number have the rare ability to turn large scale dreams into tangible reality. This is considered the most powerful number in numerology. The challenge is the immense self pressure that comes with such high potential.

Master Number 33

Known as the Master Healer or Master Teacher. Carries the nurturing heart of Life Path 6 amplified to its highest spiritual expression. People with this number are here to heal, teach, and uplift on a profound level. The challenge is emotional overwhelm from carrying the weight of others' suffering.

N

Numerology

An ancient belief system that assigns meaning and significance to numbers. Numerology holds that numbers carry distinct vibrational energies that influence human personality, relationships, life events, and spiritual growth. The practice derives key numbers from a person's date of birth and full name to create a comprehensive profile. Major branches include Pythagorean, Vedic (Chaldean), and Kabbalistic numerology.

Numerology Chart

A complete profile of all the significant numbers derived from your date of birth and full birth name. A full numerology chart typically includes your Life Path Number, Expression Number, Soul Urge Number, Personality Number, Birthday Number, and any Master Numbers or Karmic Debt Numbers present in the calculations.

P

Personal Year Number

A number that reveals the overarching theme and energy of a specific year in your life. It is calculated by adding your birth month, birth day, and the current calendar year, then reducing to a single digit. Personal Year Numbers cycle from 1 to 9, with each year bringing different opportunities, challenges, and areas of focus. The cycle repeats every nine years.

Personality Number

Calculated from the consonants in your full birth name. The Personality Number reveals the outer face you present to the world and the first impression others form of you. It represents the parts of yourself that you are comfortable showing publicly, as opposed to the deeper motivations revealed by your Soul Urge Number.

Pinnacle Numbers

Four distinct life phases, each governed by a specific number derived from your birth date. Pinnacle Numbers indicate the themes, opportunities, and energies that are most active during each phase of your life. They help explain why certain periods feel dramatically different from others and what you are being called to develop during each stage.

Pythagorean Numerology

The most widely practiced numerology system in the Western world. Named after the Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras, this system assigns numerical values (1 through 9) to the letters of the alphabet in sequential order and derives meaning from birth dates and names. It is the system used by Birthday Compatibility for all calculations.

R

Reducing

The process of adding the individual digits of a multi digit number together until you arrive at a single digit (1 through 9) or a Master Number (11, 22, 33). For example, the number 38 reduces as follows: 3 + 8 = 11. Since 11 is a Master Number, you stop there. If the result had been 12, you would continue: 1 + 2 = 3.

S

Soul Urge Number

Calculated from the vowels (A, E, I, O, U) in your full birth name. The Soul Urge Number reveals your innermost desires, deepest motivations, and the things that truly drive your decisions at a level you may not always be consciously aware of. It represents what your heart genuinely wants, independent of social expectations or external pressures.

Also known as: Heart's Desire Number

Soulmate Number

A popular term referring to the Life Path Numbers that are considered most naturally compatible with your own. While no single number guarantees a soulmate connection, certain pairings do tend to feel more effortless and naturally aligned. Our compatibility calculator evaluates these dynamics across four dimensions to give a nuanced picture rather than a simple match or mismatch label.

V

Vedic Numerology

Also known as Chaldean numerology. An ancient Indian numerological system that assigns different numerical values to letters than the Pythagorean system and places particular emphasis on planetary associations with numbers. Vedic numerology is one of the systems we cross reference when researching our content to ensure accuracy and depth.

Also known as: Chaldean Numerology

Vibration

In numerology, the idea that every number carries a unique energetic frequency or vibration that influences the people and situations associated with it. This concept is foundational to all numerological systems and is based on the principle that numbers are not merely mathematical symbols but carriers of distinct energetic qualities.
